ZONE FINALS 2009

After a very wet week, we hosted the Northern Zone Finals at Marrabel on 4th July.

Burra and Pt Augusta Pony Clubs made the wet trip down, hoping the event was not going to be cancelled.

The morning was fine, with a little shower about 9.30am.  This made everything wet under foot, but not dangerous.  The dressage phase was completed by 1.00pm and the arenas removed by Gums members ready for the Mounted games to be set up.  The Show Jumping started at approx 12:30pm and with many teams this took a little longer than expected.  Mounted Games were a little late starting at 4:00pm, but were over with very quickly thanks to Bradley French and his Burra helpers.

The presentations were completed very quickly by Northern Zone President; Lizzie Wigney and her helpers Northern Zone Secretary Liz Moreton and assistants Stephanie Bishop and Elle Moreton.

The Saddleworth Historical Society put on a fantastic roast meal at a very reasonable price followed by a hot dessert for all competitors, parents and onlookers.

A big thanks must go to all member of the participating clubs, The Gums, Pt Augusta and Burra.  Also to the lady from Crystal Brook Pony Club that came and assisted - thank you.

To all the Judges for their assistance and to the many that brought helpers with them - thank you.

The Northern Zone AGM was held that evening with Pt Augusta securing the right to hold the Finals in 2010.  Good luck and hopefully Broken Hill and Crystal Brook will have some competitors.

Thanks also to Mark Connelly for the excellent job he did on the PA for the day, also to Marianne and her husband for attending the weekend and taking photos.  These can be viewed and purchased from her website www.mascar.com.au

MARRABEL BULL RIDE - FUNDRAISER

A huge thank you to all the people - members, their friends and Burra Pony Club members that helped make the Bull ride fundraiser such a success.

As most of you know we ran out of meat for a short time at midnight.  Then totally ran out at 3.30am.  We did have the bacon but that was for breakfast.... guess what that also ran out.

We do not know the final figure for the fundraiser - but probably about $3000.00.

We are hoping to look into getting a PA system for the club.

Gums Open Gymkhana 7/12/08

The Gums Horse and Pony Club, held on Sunday 7th December at Marrabel, was a great success with terrific weather and a great turnout of riders and spectators.  The event was well supported with Gums riders and riders from other local pony clubs, even quite a few adult riders joined in too.  The event even attracted a couple of Adelaide pony club riders too with them making the journey to Marrabel for the day which was great for the organisers to see.

The day started with hacking events at 9am – split into two rings, Ring 1 - 12 and under and Ring 2 - 13 and over.  All the classes were of good size and the judges (Alison Ward and Elle Moreton) were kept on their toes with some good displays of riding by the competitors.  All of the events were well contested with some friendly competition to see who could bring home the most ribbons for the day!  There wasn’t a single pony at the end of the day not covered from head to tail in ribbons – with many parents out with the cameras to capture the moment.

Show Jumping, judged by Kent Hallett, commenced at 10.30 with a good number of riders competing – some for the first time.  It was good to see quite a few show jump riders there on the day that used the course as a training exercise for their horses that perhaps wouldn’t normally attend Pony Club.

Once the hacking events were completed, Novelty Events were eagerly awaited for by the riders.  It was great to see lots of the led riders competing in the events, with parents having to run at a very fast pace to keep their children happy!

The organisers of the gymkhana were extremely pleased by the turnout the event received – not only for riding but those that volunteered their time to assist with the running of all the events, we all know that these events don’t just run themselves so it was great to see everyone pitching in to assist.
